All about peatlands
Everything you might want to know about peatlands (but were afraid to ask)
Peatlands can seem like the worst thing on Earth when you’re tentatively picking your way around soggy ground wishing you were a bird. But these water-packed ecosystems are amazing collectors of carbon, rich archaeological sites and home to unique species of wildlife. At the Trust, we’re dedicated to looking after peatlands on the land we own and elsewhere. With the climate crisis this has become ever more urgent work. You can help by supporting our Peatland Appeal.
