Trust response to Proposed Residential Outdoor Education Bill
Liz Smith, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party, has proposed a Schools (Residential Outdoor Education) (Scotland) Bill. The aim of the Bill is to give young people aged 12 to 16 an opportunity to experience residential outdoor education by creating a statutory obligation for education authorities or grant-aided schools to arrange this provision. The Trust supports an entitlement for every young person to have an opportunity to experience residential outdoor education and broadly welcomes the Bill, with some caveats about adequate resourcing and evaluating the provision, which require further consideration.
