John Muir Award Story - Wild Ways Well & St Maurice’s High School
Young people engage in a pilot project to show how spending time outdoors can help improve their health & wellbeing
Wild Ways Well is a wellbeing project developed by TCV and Cumbernauld Living Landscape. A project pilot in 2016-17 trialled a new programme of environmental activities for those at risk of mental ill health with one key aim - to demonstrate that spending time outdoors, in nature, makes people feel better about themselves and their lives.
Pupils from a Prince’s Trust class at St Maurice’s High School in Cumbernauld, Scotland, participated in the pilot whilst working towards their John Muir Discovery Award.
This summary highlights the positive impacts recognised by both the pupils and staff and how the John Muir Award was used to help deliver the project’s health and wellbeing objectives.
