My Nevis: Martin Haigh
Helping us celebrate 21 years of looking after Nevis is Martin Haigh who shares his memories of climbing his 200th Munro – Ben Nevis.
Ben Nevis was my 200th Munro. I climbed it on 26 May 2013. The fact that made it unusual was that at the summit, we spoke to a Frenchman who had lost a leg, had an artificial leg and had managed to climb Ben Nevis on it. Phenomenal.
He is taking a picture of his walking partner at the summit in the above photograph.
And then he took a picture of me (red jacket) and my friend Nick (blue jacket) straight afterwards. We thought we had done well with our ascent via Carn Mor Dearg, but realised it was nothing compared to the achievement and spirit of this Frenchman.
I’m also sharing a view of Ben Nevis (and the Carn Mor Dearg ridge) that I took the day before, 25 May 2013, from the summit of Aonach Mor.
I compleated the Munros in 2018 on another John Muir Trust Munro: Blaven on Skye.
