Trust thanks Members for strategy feedback

Following invaluable feedback to the draft five-year strategic plan, the Trust has made several key changes and used it to inform the next stage of consultation, with a wider stakeholder group.

Swim and Tonic - Helen

Around 200 Trust Members responded to our request for feedback on the draft One Page Strategic Plan and the eight proposed objectives, and the overall attitude to startegic approach was positive.

Eighty one respondents made additional written comments which were wide ranging and highlighted the healthy breadth of opinion amongst the Trust membership.

This consultation with Members and discussions with staff were shared in full with Trustees and informed the following changes to the strategic plan.

  • Clearer expression of geographical focus
  • More explicit words on tactical approach to acquire or jointly own wild places
  • More explicit words committing to work in partnership with communities and diverse groups
  • Further amalgamation of Strategic Objectives and Programmes – nothing has been removed, but top level positioning has been simplified to improve chance of successful delivery
  • Increased use of plain English versus perceived ‘management speak’ i.e. use of terms such as ‘brand’ and ‘blended interpretation’ removed
  • Adjust focus away from communicating (internal) measures towards (external) aspirations
  • Further simplify the way we explain the ‘clear line of sight’ from the organisations vision to how we will deliver it - including more succinct focus and messaging descriptions.
  • Further details on measures of success

As a result, the proposed eight objectives have been reduced to the following five:

1. Demonstrate exemplary management of wild places

2. Inspire people and communities to benefit from and advocate for wild places

3. Influence government and land managers to protect wild places

4. Strengthen societal understanding of the value of wild places

5. Exemplify best practice in our organisation for all

The Trust is now seeking input from those who can partner with the Trust to effectively deliver its strategy. Read more.

The Trust's new strategy will be launched in the first half of this year.
