John Muir Trust supports Discover National Parks 2019
National Parks week has been extended to a fortnight in 2019, here's how to discover some of the hidden gems
Discover National Parks fortnight runs from 6 – 21 April. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy and celebrate our family of 15 UK National Parks, and to celebrate John Muir’s 181st birthday on 21 April!
John Muir was instrumental in the foundation of the National Parks system in the US. This inspired a global family, including those in the UK, so it’s fitting that champions of wild places from all corners of the UK get behind Discover National Parks.
Here are some ideas to get involved in:
- Find a National Park near you and visit it: there will be events across the UK's 15 National Parks, including many free family events
- Read about the origins of National Parks: find out how the conservation movement started and explore various links via our (National Parks Resource Guide)
- Create your own mini national park: just one of 20 Muir-related activities that can be downloaded for free at Mission:Explore John Muir

Our John Muir Award is used in all 15 of the UK’s National Parks, with dedicated staff time commitment in Cairngorms, Lake District, Loch Lomond & The Trossachs, and Peak District National Parks.
