Message from the Chair of the John Muir Trust
Investigation concludes with Lessons Learned Report.
On 31 October 2023 the Trust reported that Chief Executive Officer David Balharry would return to work following a five-month absence. The investigation relating to that absence has now concluded with a Lessons Learned Report.
The Board of Trustees committed to address the issues raised through that investigation and an independent ‘lessons learned’ document makes a number of recommendations, which are now being incorporated into updated policies and procedures. Some of these are internal policies which are relevant to Trust employees, two others are published within the Guidance Notes for Trustees and Revised Trustee Code of Conduct.
Jane Smallman, Chair of the John Muir Trust said: “With the support of our Members, the Trustee Board and our staff we have moved the Trust through a difficult period and onto a strong footing. Our charitable purpose is to conserve and protect wild places, and that is more important than ever. To underpin our future direction, we have aligned all aspects of our work firmly on that purpose.”
