John Muir Award redesign update
As we celebrate 27 years of the Trust's environmental scheme - the John Muir Award - we are excited to refresh it: building on its success and ensuring it remains relevant for the future.
The John Muir Award team is hard at work redesigning our popular environmental scheme. The relaunched Award will:
- Better align with the John Muir Trust's wider work
- Improve our ability to demonstrate its positive impact on people and wild places
- Have streamlined Award management processes
- Operate sustainably.
Meanwhile, the John Muir Award has temporarily paused so that we can focus on relaunching the 'Discovery' level of the Award in March 2025.
We are making good progress with the redesign. We held a series of workshops this autumn, which focused on:
- Criteria
- Funding models
- Reporting and impact
- Resources
The discussions were well received by Award leaders who offered valuable insight and constructive feedback, which we are taking on board.
We are also working hard on the ‘behind the scenes’ Award management processes, implementing a new customer relationship management tool which will improve our data collection methods and ensure superior reporting capabilities. This is a valuable development within the redesign to better demonstrate the John Muir Award’s impact on people and wild places for the benefit of all.
We have audited our resources and are keen to find out which ones are used the most, where we can add value and the formats that are preferred so that we can create some new resources which are useful to Award leaders. To do this, we will be sending out a short survey to John Muir Award e-Bulletin subscribers within the next couple of weeks.
