Land Operations Manager Richard Williams shares some feedback to our draft land management plans
Many thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to our latest Land Management Plan* consultation for some of the properties we look after: Sandwood; Quinag; Strathaird, Torrin and Sconser on Skye; Ben Nevis and Glenlude in the Scottish Borders.
Over 60 people shared their feedback about our draft plans – both in person at our Sandwood and Quinag Open Days held in Lochinver and Kinlochbervie last November and online – before our consultation closed at the end of February.
Feedback ranged from general comments about the structure, content and frequency of the plans, to site-specific queries about provision of information and location of gates. Comments were generally very constructive, with some particularly useful points raised which will be incorporated in the next iteration of the plans. I have [summarised the main themes in a document now available on our website].
The next stage is to finalise our three-year Land Management Plans for Sandwood, Quinag, Skye, Ben Nevis and Glenlude over the next couple of months. Meanwhile – subject to staff availability with many of our land team currently furloughed – we are looking at draft Land Management Plans for East Schiehallion, Li & Coire Dhorrcail on Knoydart and Glenridding Common in the Lake District.

*The John Muir Trust produces public management plans for all the properties we manage with actions based on our Wild Land Management Standards. These standards have been developed for land currently managed in Scotland. They will be modified to take account of the different context in of the land we mange at Glenridding Common in the Lake District, such as different legal and land management arrangements.
