Two young rangers join the team
New recruits to Trust's Land teams on Skye and at Sandwood
The Trust has appointed two new land team rangers, made possible with the generous continued support of the ALA Green Charitable Trust.
Carrie Weager joined the team at Sandwood Bay on the 27 May and has been working with Don O’Driscoll to develop a programme of guided walks, undertake the annual habitat and species monitoring on the estate, while also building on the positive work delivered through the soon to be completed Coastal Communities Fund Project.
Carrie will assist with a full range of conservation tasks and practical land management through the year, greatly adding to local staff capacity and broadening the scope of work and projects possible on the estate.
Cathryn Baille started on 18 June working with Ally MacAskill and team across the Trust’s three Skye properties and similarly will be undertaking various community engagement activities, habitat and species monitoring work, as well as assisting with a range of practical conservation tasks across the estates.
Cathryn’s appointment follows another recruit earlier this year. Estate Worker John MacRae joined in April and is a further welcome addition to the Skye team, which at over 12,000 hectares – represented over 50 per cent of the Trust’s total land holdings, comprising a range of different habitats, protected sites and a large active crofting population.
