Wild Moment: Becky Auty
"At first I wasn't too sure, but after a couple of pages I was hooked..." A 12-year-old reviews Barbara Henderson's Wilderness Wars.
Wilderness Wars is one of the best books I have read! The story is about a 12 (nearly 13) year old girl called Em. Her family and lots of other families go on a boat to a deserted island called Skelsay to build a luxury holiday resort. Em meets a boy called Zac (who is the same age as her) and they become friends as they explore the island:
‘Zac! Zac, there’s a chick there, I think.’ Yes, that is definitely the fluffy head of a chick—just one—its hooked beak tearing blood-red strips from its breakfast. I should be disgusted, but I feel elated instead.
I can barely take it in: the sunlit slopes, the wind singing in the cracks, and this beautiful, graceful, merciless hunter.
‘An eaglet,’ whispers Zac.
But things start to go wrong when nature fights back... Can Em and Zac make the adults believe them before it's too late?
I am not going to give anything away because you might want to read Wilderness Wars yourself. It was such a good book I couldn't put it down! I just had to find out what happened next. The best part of the book was the end because lots of things happen and when it finished, I wished there was more!
Barbara Henderson has done a super job creating this book and she has inspired me to write more of my own stories. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends and to whoever is reading this review! Oh, and also I would say this book is maybe best for those aged 10 and over because some parts are dramatic! Go ahead and start reading. Go! Now!
