Wild Moment: Mandy Ducksbury
Poems inspired by the beauty of Mother Nature during visits to Maulds Meaburn and Sandwick Bay in Cumbria.
Maulds Meaburn
Rowan, oak and hawthorn,
Green fields all around,
Beauty of the birdsong
While sat up on open ground.
Thistles grow in long grass
Their flowers attract the bees,
A cockerel crows in the distance
Sights and sounds of nature truly please.
Sitting by the river
Soothing as it flows,
Observing all around me
As a breeze gently blows.
Oak leaves shake with laughter
Sheep graze grass nearby,
Sitting in the afternoon sunshine
Watching swallows fly.
The beauty at Maulds Meaburn
As the seasons come and go,
Never fails to be awe inspiring
As Mother Nature has much to show.

Sandwick
Martindale so peaceful
Rolling fellsides green,
Unfurling ferns spectacular
Mother Nature’s beauty seen.
Purple foxgloves bells intricate
Soil on which they grow so dry,
Beautiful and calming countryside
I ask myself why?
Water ripples gracefully
In the early morning peace,
As I sit and look around me
Nature is my release.
Geese honking at the lakeside
Sand crunching as I walk,
Oak leaves shake with laughter,
Listening to a jackdaw’s squawk.
Rocks adorn the lakeside
Pieces of driftwood dry,
Crows nesting in treetops
In a buttercup meadow, cows lie.
