Wild Moment: Richard Castro
A Walk in the Park
It wasn’t just the carpet of autumn leaves
That turned the green orange,
pointed maple, blunted sycamore, rounded jagged elm,
It was the views across the estuary
The lighthouse on Fife
The North Sea stretching to the horizon
The patchwork of fields in the Kingdom
The cityscape and the castle nearby
The coastal villages over the water
The bridge carrying trains - carefully crossing
City birds enhanced the scene
The newly arrived magpie, and its fellow crows,
The busy starlings and the friendly robin
Skateboarders, tennis and basketball players
Planes low over the Uni, hoping to land,
Dogs fetching, students running,
citizens reading and I walking.

* Richard says: "It was the Tay Estuary. The walk to relieve lockdown imprisonment was taken in Dudhope Park Near the Tay Estuary in Dudhope Park in the centre of Dundee. The lighthouse was near Tayport, the castle was Dudhope Castle, the villages were Newport, Woodhaven and Wormit and the trains were carefully crossing the Tay Railway Bridge. The skateboarding, tennis and basketball were all taking place within that park and the approach for all planes landing at Dundee Airport really does make them appear to skim the tops of the Dundee Biomedical Science buildings."
